My Favorite Camping Trip to the Appalachian Mountains
By: John
As a child, I’d always admired the people who would set out on their own on a journey. Whether it’s exploring the peaks of mountains of Argentina or going for a forest hike, it always intrigued me as to what sort of experience they would be having.
When I was 22, I had the opportunity to opt for the mountains. I had my camp tent, a few of my clothes and necessities, and I set off on my bike. The bike I had was a Benelli, so the adventure itself was terrific.
The Appalachian mountains require you to be ready to be mesmerized by nature’s beauty. One of the most exciting parts of the Appalachian mountains is the sunset, which can be seen between the two mountains, like a bird opening its beak to take in the sun.
Camping or hiking in the Appalachian mountains can be rugged and involve a lot of danger, as I had been warned, but I realized that the threat and risk levels were all worth it!
On my way, I met a few fellow tourists who were on the same journey as me, exploring the wonders of the mountains. From then onwards, I felt relieved that a few people accompanied me on my trip.
As soon as we reached the mountain top, we set camp. On our way, we gathered a few logs that appeared fat enough to light through a few hours at night. When we set up the camp, we got ourselves a little meal to help us feel less hungry and a little water, enough to keep us merely hydrated.
Around 1 am when everyone was asleep, we all felt like someone was walking around our camp. The silence resonated throughout the center, where we could only hear footsteps outside our camp.
Initially, we thought it was someone among us, who got up for a little bathroom break, but we all wondered why he would be circling our bikes, the fire, and then our food. Near my camp, I could hear the footsteps more clearly. The thumping sound was too loud for an average human’s feet, so I figured it was some animal.
I braced my fear and quietly peeked through the zipper of my tent, where I saw a giant black bear. The beast was around 6 feet tall on four legs. I imagined how tall she would be when he was on two legs.
The black bear was accompanied by two baby bears following their mother but on a variable route. We all kept quiet as if we were connected to one mind as we all knew what to do in such a situation.
A few minutes passed when the black momma bear and her offspring left the campsite. When we all got out and were shocked to see such a sight for the first time, indeed, such a camping trip was an adventure of a lifetime!!
